The Hickman Mills Prevention Coalition is powered by people who are deeply rooted in the Hickman Mills community — parents, tradespeople, youth advocates, and lifelong community servants. This work isn't just a job. For everyone involved, it's personal.
Executive Director & Program Director
Marva Moses
"Young people in their lives and their livelihoods are my passion. Anywhere I can, I try to be available to both young people and their families, as well as our community — to develop plans and strategies to keep them safe and alive."
Marva Moses is the Executive Director of the Hickman Mills Prevention Coalition and the Director of the VIP program. With nearly four decades of nonprofit experience, Marva has built her entire professional life around one mission: keeping young people alive and giving them the tools to flourish.
Her leadership of the VIP program is not just administrative — she has personally conducted violence interruptions in the field, building trust with young people so that they feel safe enough to come forward when something is about to happen. For Marva, this is not a career. It is a calling.

VIP Team Member
Tahiri Chase
Tahiri Chase came to this work through lived experience. Growing up in the inner city, exposed to violence and its consequences from a young age, Tahiri found her way to community advocacy through the Bright Futures program with the City and work with Aim for Peace — where she first connected with Marva Moses.
Today, Tahiri brings a multi-faceted professional background to the VIP team — spanning property management, entrepreneurship, and community outreach. She is involved in direct youth engagement, documentation, case management, and community events.
"I feel like the target should have always been kids — because that's really where it starts from. I'm passionate about giving them the resources, changing the mindset, and changing the environment. That will have a domino effect on violence in this city."
VIP Team Member
Tevin Johnney
"What I hope to achieve is enabling and empowering young people with hands-on skills — to divert their attention from the hands-on skills they might gain otherwise."
Tevin Johnney, a Hickman graduate, is a contractor by trade with over a decade of experience in masonry and brickwork — and more recently, national commercial beverage equipment installation. He brings to the VIP program something essential: proof that hands-on skills open doors.
As a father of five sons, Tevin's investment in young men's success is both professional and deeply personal. His vision for VIP is to provide young men with the kind of hands-on, technical, real-world skill sets that redirect their energy and attention — giving them something to be proud of and a path forward that doesn't require them to risk their lives.
